Borae
Intro
Borae is a luxury korean skincare brand inspired by the color purple and the properties of the amethyst. Developed as my bachelor’s thesis project, it focused on creating a cohesive visual identity and packaging design that reflect the brand’s core values of calm, refinement, and self-care.
Deliverables:
The Challenge
The project focused on shaping Borae’s visual identity from the ground up, defining a strong and recognizable image for a fictional brand centered on calm, ethereal luxury, and self-care. The main challenge was to translate these values into a clean and minimalist visual language while ensuring consistency across the brand’s first product line. This included the design of the initial packaging collection: a gift box containing two facial creams, one day and one night, conceived to introduce the brand through a refined, sensorial experience aligned with its quiet luxury character.
My Approach
I began by researching the historical and cultural associations of the color purple, a hue long linked to spirituality, luxury, and inner calm. These insights guided the development of Borae’s visual identity, shaping a language that feels both refined and serene. The design process focused on achieving an elegant minimalism through balanced compositions, delicate typography, and subtle shades inspired by amethyst tones. The packaging was conceived to mirror this aesthetic: clean, tactile, and quietly sophisticated, embodying the sense of purity and self-care at the heart of the brand.
The Result
The final outcome demonstrates how a cohesive visual identity can elevate the perceived value of a product, especially within the luxury skincare field. In Borae, the visual system and packaging work together to transform skincare into an immersive experience of calm and refinement. The packaging evolved from a simple protective element into a narrative and strategic medium that enhances the complete sensorial experience.
